Affiliate Marketing in August: Potatoes and Sea Serpents

Researching August holidays and celebrations proved once again that assumptions can be oh so wrong!

I was amazed by the number of named days and monthly celebrations that came up.

My favorites by far are Play in the Sand Day, Bad Poetry Day (which I definitely will not celebrate), Kiss and Make Up Day and Rice Pudding Day – which I will celebrate with Vietnamese rice pudding made from rice vermicelli. YUM!!!

Here are 2 lists of all the holidays and celebrations coming up in August.

In terms of month-long celebrations, I know that there are many of you who will join me in celebrating Home Business and National Golf month.

  • American Artist Appreciation Month
  • Foot Health Month
  • Home Business Month
  • National Catfish Month
  • National Golf Month
  • National Inventors Month
  • National Water Quality Month

In terms of affiliate marketing, I think the foodies win this one hands down.

Seriously, who with a food blog could resist doing a “Happy Potato Day” post?

Hmmm… that could be fun to do on almost any blog.

Maybe we should make it a movement – ’cause who doesn’t love potatoes?

Note: If you’ve never been, the best potatoes in the world are grown and cooked in Ecuador. Their Locro de Papa soup (Potato-Cheese Soup With Avocado) is probably the world’s ultimate comfort food… and a heart attack waiting to happen.

OK, that was an aside. What would you sell to celebrate Potato Day?

Mr. Potato Head of course!

Alright, that was perhaps a little over the top, but you can see how letting your mind wander (and get a little twisted) will fire those neurons to come up with unique ideas — stuff no one else is blogging about — even when it seems like there’s NOTHING to blog about in a given month.

OK, now start thinking about sea serpents!

    Hi Ros,

    Happy Civic Holiday!

As someone who could relate to Chocolate Chip Day, It might be a stretch for me to enthusiastically
talk about National Trailmix Day. But, point taken. Lots of interesting options there to think about.

    Ros,

I love the fact that you are showing examples, (maybe just a tad bit extreme) of letting your creative side come up with interesting ways to blog and entertain our audience. The advice you give however, is that all of us can be connecting our niches to something current is something for all of us to work on.

I think I’ll combine two and celebrate “Mustard on Waffle Day” :).

Has anyone noticed that Mr. Potato is looking slimmer these days?

    Hi Ros!

    Hope all is well!

Why stop at Mr. Potato Head?

Go for the high end – sell COUCHES! (…you know…for THAT kind of potato, heh!)

    All the best,

    ~(G)Q

There is something to celebrate almost every day of the month? The 21st is my dad’s birthday so no break for me there…guess I will rest on the 27th and 29th. Whoops I’ll be in Newfoundland for my girlfriends wedding as a maid of honor – so that means I’ll be extra busy.

Thanks for having all the fun celebrations in one place – there’s no need to try and find out what to write about, we just have to come to your blog.

Thanks Ros for these great ideas! Love them them all including Mr. Potato head himself. :)

Thanks for reminding me once again that I can still have fun while I’m making money online. I’ve gotten trapped in the To Do list/”nose to the grind stone” mentality.

BTW – Happy National Rice Pudding Day – Yummy!

    Cheers!
