Video: My Predictions for Affiliate Marketing in 2009

If you’re concerned about how the economic crisis might affect your affiliate business prospects in 2009, you’ll want to watch this video. In it I discuss a primary indicator that bodes well for the industry, and on the downside, which affiliates will have to scale up or expand their marketing efforts.

I also give clues that point to some potentially lucrative markets.

Have a point to contribute or a question to ask? Please share your comments below… just no comments about my bad hair day, please. It was the lighting, I swear! :-)

Hi Ros! Great video with more great ideas! Thanks for giving a positive spin on the upcoming year. Fear can cause people to freeze their movements. Looking at the economy as half full instead of half empty is a better mindset to have in a bad economy. When the economy is down, affiliates seem to pull out all the stops to create more sales. They have to dig deeper to increase sales. I think you are right. We should find more marketers wanting us to sell their products and offer greater rewards for sales in general!

I just listened to your 2009 Affiliate projections. One thing you mentioned was higher PPC costs for keywords. I see this as a positive thing. Let’s assume my some of my competition for certain primary keywords decided to cut back on your PPC compaign. I love it. I will be ready to jump in and still some of those spots.

So bring it on in 2009. Some will get richer while others will give up.

      Captain Kyle

      Hi Ros ~

This makes perfect sense. Hopefully by honing our conversion skills this year we’ll net even more profits when the economy is on the up swing.

BTW – A bad hair day is something I had 3 days ago when I got distracted after putting in a deep conditioner. 20 minutes later (was supposed to be in for 3) my hair looked like a grease ball. Three days later I’m still washing out the effects :)

      Hi Karen,

Gotta HATE when that happens. All appears well now though… give it another try.

      Hi Carolyn,

I like your slant and suggest that the value of (payouts for) CPA offers will also likely increase as merchants get desperate for consumers to go to THEIR house instead of their competitor’s.

      Let’s hope, eh? :-)

      Cheers,
      Ros

I think this is more than a pep talk. I have heard good things about anything health related. Because they have to have it. Autoparts. Definitely full of possibilities. But I know people that just are more likely to NOT work on the car. And take care of their teeth or hair first.

I agree with you entirely Ros… no matter what the economy people will always spend money… just the things they spend the money on may change…

Great videos, I prefer them to reading a post…

Thanks for the video, you just confirmed my strategy is going in the right direction. I already discovered the PPC direction was increasing so I started blogging as a way to drive traffic. It also feeds my long term strategy in creating a web presence that will last longer than a PPC strategy.

Gail, use a clarifying shampoo to help cut the greasy effects of the conditioner. You can also use harsher detergent like products to cut the grease like dawn dish liquid or Prell brand shampoo. Don’t use these harsh products often though. Just when you are in a pinch! Don’t forget to use a good conditioner after you get rid of the oils to restore moisture. Clarifying shampoos strip your hair and can leave it susceptible to damage. Sorry Ros, this was right up my alley:o) Carolyn

      Hi Rosalind,

Just wanted to say Hi! I get so many emails from the Top Guru’s, but your email “Title” in my inbox got my attention! So great “Sales Copy Add”, you got my attention!
By the way it wasn’t the Great Hair Day, it was The 2009 report for Affiliate, etc!

The Best, I think, in writing email “Attention Grabber” are Tellman & Frank Kern, for
myself, they use such a everyday simple approach like you did with the Economic….
      Bad Hair day! Great Job!

Second, I like your economic report, Very, Very, Very Good! A+, Five Star *****,
      FeedBack Score 5.0!

My 3rd point! The “Markets” you point out are for Real! Anyone can talk to a
Very, Very Older family member & ask about certain recessions, even Gas lines!
You don’t have to Google it!

      1. Pick you’re Dad’s, Mom’s, Great or Grand Any Friend or Relative and Co-
Worker’s Mind about True History as the Way they Saw It Happen!

      2. The above is a way to find out about a “Nitche” Market with in the family!

      3. “Stay” Stay away from the Big Product, top 10 items on eBay, etc! What do you
like to do? Read Sci Fi, Collect Anything like match books, coins?

      4. Now you have your product to Sell and make some money to help with the
gas bill, or candy for the kid, a simple thing candy!

      5. Candy for you! How to price your product, this can get a little complicated on
eBay.com, but the best place to learn how to sell “”Anything”, “Any Thing”" to
1.5 Billion people online! eBay, has 270 million members, they have 70, 000
“New” “Members” a day sign up from around 170 plus countries! That is a
Huge advantage for a beginner! They Get You Traffic!

I think that is enough for now! I have taken up a lot of your Blog comments!

But, I like to share what I have learned in life, a lot times people do not know or
take the moment to take action on what they know!!

      God Bless You!
      LareBear or LareBear53.

PS. Sorry I did not leave a “Affiliate” Link, not really, I love teaching & Sharing
with all of those would like to listen!

No hair!! But, when the video uploads, from your e-mail link, the ‘start’ button covers up your mouth! It’s as though the internet doesn’t want you to get your message out!
I so appreciate your ‘uplifting’ take on the economy and how we marketers can make a difference in others’ lives. Keep up the good news!
      Thanks Ros.

This happens with youtube some time, just refresh the page and retry few times…

BTW, Great video Ros! I love it.

I think 2 types of markets will have less impact:
      1. Health
      2. Problem

Desperate people will always spend money for solution, and I will focus on these type of markets.

Expected to see more coupon and discount vouchers from the vendor, should grab this opportunity to create more discount / coupon sites…!

Is this the optimistic side of you doing the Predictions or the more Realistic one.

Anyway, I feel that it does make a lot of sense!

As for people do more search and PPC goes up…. you probably know that Google revenue grow in more than 31% the last Quarter YoY … :-)

Looking forward for the great 2009!

Actually, don’t discount hair sales or beauty sales! Women (and men) will still buy these products. Hair products and makeup are a big part of my site and hair care is the busiest part of it! Both are beauty items that sell well in a downturned economy. Low priced products will still sell. If you’ve drive enough traffic to those pages which promote them, and you’ve written good reviews for the products you promote, you will make money on quantity of sales. The Hairstyler.com for example, is one of my best converting affiliate programs on my site.

Another catgegory to consider is weight loss. Many overweight people are still trying to lose weight! And everyone wants to be healthy! (well, at least most sane people:o)

Also since PPC using Adwords is losing favor, go for long tail key words. People use the craziest keyword phrases when they look for stuff. Use them!

      Dear Ros,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the recession and recession proofing our Internet Marketing efforts. Not to mention by passing ugly ineffective affiliate sales pages!

I feel as though I am flying a SR 71 Blackbird with multiple malfunctions piling up on me! Which ball do I drop, before I end up in the obituary?

I am still trying to learn how to integrate Article Live, now Website Publisher with WordPress, i.e. learning more PHP and CSS.

Meanwhile, I am trying to brush up on PPC Techniques and get affiliate links from less than cooperative affiliate managers, e.g. AzoogleAds and now that I finally have an affiliate link from eBay via Commision Junction NOW eBay is no longer with Commission Junction! At the same time I maintain a Unix Server and always seem to be building or tweaking websites and trouble shooting websites without losing cabin pressure at the same time.

Thank you for sharing how to bypass the ugly affiliate sales page! However, you didn’t leave a clue as to where to find auto parts. Just like your car repairman my Méxican car repairmen are having a very hard time!

Even though I don’t have the time I would like to help them, I am crazy enough to build them a site to sell auto parts if they can’t make it repairing cars. I suppose I could use osCommerce but where would I get the auto parts?

You and your hair look just great! Once I roll on past Mach 3 I will do a video of me, so you know who you are communicating with. All I need is a just a little touch up! Plus, a blue screen with chroma key.

      Your friend always,
      Frank and Shiva
P.D. As a former flight controller have you ever seen how fast a SR71 Blackbird moves through the radar screen? The Canadians gave us permission to use their air space back when we were using it. However, probably not in populated areas because of the triple or quadruple sonic booms. Actually, I’m not sure it would even matter since they flew in the top 10 percent of the atmosphere.

      Hi Ros,

I reviewed your video again because of the comment you made about e-bay.
I’m familiar with buying and selling on e-bay but how would an affiliate benefit from using e-bay and do you recommend a resource about learning how to benefit as an affiliate?
I do see e-bay “learning” programs but I’m assuming they teach how to be a “power seller” and may not give the info I’m looking for as an affiliate.
      Any recommendations?

      Thanks

Yeah, I agree with you that creative marketing

      Hi Karen,

eBay pays for quality traffic, be that a bid, purchase or registration and different programs compensate for different actions. Check out the commission structures at the eBay Partner Network.

One of the best ways I know how to benefit from eBay as an affiliate is through using a product called BANS (Build a Niche Store).

      Hope that helps!

      Hi Karen,

I have been fortunate enough to have been introduced to a very unique type of eBay affiliate marketing program.
It is brand new as of early spring of this year.
It’s not my intent to come across as a blog spammer
I can guarantee you that you haven’t seen an eBay program like this. I’ve included a sample domain of mine used just for eBay, although we have one for Amazon too.
If you are interested, please feel free to shoot me an email.

I’m new to Affiliate Marketing and only know of ClickBank opportunities. I recently
watched a video and this person said he was an affiliate of some businesses like Best Buy and several other big nationwide brick & mortor stores. You mentioned that I could become an affiliate for car parts on your latest video. Would you please explain how to become an affiliate marketer for these businesses and how you would promote them and get paid.

I am unemployed and I’m desperately searching for a way to generate income online.

That’s good to know about more money being poured into advertising online and the fact of earning from Ebay as an affiliate combined with selling anything we see as junk.

In fact Ebay has always been one of my better affiliate earners for the little extra money that brings in, Amazon a close second but these two are not really on equal terms as Ebay just seems far better and it probably is.

Thanks for the video insights there, they was jolly good!
