I would love to know the best places to look for jobs like this. Are there online sites with lists of jobs in this field? I’m asking for my son who is looking for a job – he has a degree in web design. He worked for a local retailer and managed their website and wrote the content for their blog for several years, and was laid off last week. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here are a whole slew of online job boards that cater specifically to the tech crowd. Some are only for online contract jobs, while list full-time permanent positions from around the world.

Note: Even designers looking for full-time positions should consider placing profiles and portfolios on freelance boards such as oDesk, 99Designs, Freelancer, Guru.com and Elance (all listed below). It’s a great way to get your name out there and to make some money while you are searching for that perfect job.

• Elance.com – When I am looking for design help, Elance is usually the first place I look. Specializes in online employment.
• Sologig.com – Specializes in IT and engineering jobs.
• Scriptlance – Specializes in posting jobs for programmers, writers, designers and marketers.
• vWorker – Used to be called RentaCoder. Lists jobs for coders, graphic artists, designers, writers, translators, marketers and personal assistants.
• Coroflot – Coroflot was one of the first web design job boards on the internet. New listings are posted every day, often for well paid jobs with large corporations.
• Indeed – Claims to have over 50 million unique visitors and 1 billion job searches per month. Indeed is available in more than 50 countries and 26 languages, covering 94% of global GDP
• Personforce – Supplies one of the most popular job boards for internet and tech jobs. Used by TechCrunch on their CrunchBoard.
• Authentic Jobs – Authentic Jobs is a web design job board that lists jobs from entry level to senior level web design jobs and above.
• Smashing Jobs – Smashing Magazine’s blog is all about coding and design. Jobs posted here are by readers for readers.
• Dice.com – leading career website for technology and engineering professionals, and the companies that seek to employ them, in the United States.

The following sites are huge job boards that list jobs in numerous categories.

• CareerBuilder – largest online employment website in the U.S., with 23 million unique visitors each month and a 34% market share of help-wanted web sites.
• Monster – Pioneered the business of digital recruiting in 1994, it now provides a full array of job seeking, career management, recruitment and talent management products and services.
• Workopolis – Live in Canada? This is the job board for you.

As it is highly unlikely that U.S. Congress members will see past their differences during the current term to pass the Jobs Bill and put people to work, I did some research to find out what types of jobs are available.

Fortunately for those of you interested in making money online, the news is good!

I did a job search at SimplyHired each of the terms I selected showed an increase between 77 and 722 percent since November of 2009.

What? Me say that dirty word – J.O.B. – not once, but THREE times?

I know, I know, but what with the Big 3 bailout on its last legs today (unless the White House steps in), my guess is that more than just a few NPT readers will be among the 1.6 million workers affected by the fallout – not to mention those of you who are already looking for work or have concerns that your job may be in jeopardy.

Seen in that light, ‘job’ isn’t such a bad word and I thought you should know that there are PLENTY of jobs in the affiliate marketing industry. Here’s a screenshot taken today of Monster.com returns for a search for ‘affiliate marketing’.

Note that there were 396 job listings just in the States, posted by companies such as Amazon, Commission Junction, Google and Netflix. A search of the U.K. site resulted in 76 returns and the Canadian site returned another 16 job listings, including postings by our friends at EcomAccess / ShareResults and MaxBounty had posted a full-time entry-level affiliate manager’s position.

If you – already having some knowledge of affiliate marketing – think that you’re not qualified to be an affiliate manager, I’d like you to read the following list from MaxBounty’s listing:

Hint: Use the wording in job postings to guide your resume preparation. I was recently asked to do an interview for the “Future of Information Marketing: Pros, Cons and Predictions” series and one of the questions asked was ‘What is YOUR vision and prediction for where the Future of Information Marketing is headed?’.
