My 5 Most Effective Site Marketing Techniques

    Written by Rosalind Gardner

Here’s a traffic generation question / comment from Kenny that was spot on!

Rosalind, it is inconceivable that you have time to utilize all the techniques in your ebook.

So, in an effort to follow your lead, so to speak, if you were to narrow down the five most consistently effective marketing / promotion / advertising processes that you use primarily, what would you say those were?

    In advance, thanks.

    Kenny Love

    GREAT question, Kenny!

You’re absolutely right – I’d go bonkers if I tried to do ALL of the marketing techniques ALL of the time.

So, here are the 5 traffic generation or marketing methods that I use most consistently:

    1. Blogging for Search Engine Placement
    2. List / Email Marketing
    3. Social Media Marketing & Community Activity
    4. Pay Per Click Marketing (PPC)
    5. Article Distribution & Marketing

    Blogging for Search Engine Placement

Essentially, my first priority is to publish fresh content to my blogs on a regular basis (some of which are more regular than others). Although I don’t engage in keyword stuffing, (which makes for horrible reading), the content of each blog post has to be tightly focused on one subject so that keywords and keyword phrases in the article are closely aligned and thus the post is more likely to get picked up and listed by the search engines, resulting in free traffic.

    List / Email Marketing

The post is then distributed by email to the relevant subscriber list either through a blog broadcast (using Aweber / Feedburner combined) or through a link in a weekly newsletter.

Social Media Marketing & Community Activity

Engaging the audience personally through either blog commenting, forum posting or social media marketing comes next. I will respond to comments and answer any questions posted by my own blog readers and subscribers, which enhances information contained in the article and adds still more ‘fodder’ for the search engines to notice. My social media marketing efforts are fairly scant – using applications like TwitterFeed to broadcast the post’s title and link to Twitter for some more free traffic. From time to time, I’ll post a comment to a high-profile blog or forum in response to a topic relevant to my original article, along with a link to that article.

    Pay Per Click Marketing (PPC)

Depending on the response from blog readers and subscribers, I may incorporate PPC marketing at that point. If the conversion rate is better than average for the audience, I’ll do the math to assess whether it’s worth driving traffic to that particular post or page with PPC, starting with Google Adwords and/or Yahoo! Search Marketing depending on the demographic. If the response is just ‘good’, PPC may still be worth the effort if enough of that traffic joins the list.

    Article Distribution & Marketing

Article marketing comes in 5th and last, because I don’t post the same articles to my site as I would distribute to article directories so they require some re-writing, which takes time. Furthermore, the traffic isn’t as targeted as it is with your own list or with PPC marketing… but it’s traffic none-the-less and every click counts for something… eventually.

After that’s all said and done, it’s probably time to write another post — or more likely, take another vacation. :-)

      Great post.
I noticed a couple of things that just blew me away (yes, from just this one post):

First of all, you’re obviously posting relevant content since you’re actually responding to one of your readers questions. This is fabulous as you don’t need to find relevant topics to talk about – your readers tell you what’s relevant. And since I’m sure this reader has questions most of your audience has, you’re super targeted with your post.

Also, your traffic techniques all work together. They are not 5 separate techniques, but 5 techniques that all work together to milk the most amount of traffic for any given post. You’re essentially building one technique on top of the other. That to me is so simple yet probably effective as hell.

Thanks for this post and I’ll probably implement this right away with my blog

      Hi, Rosalind,

I purchased the SAH a couple of months ago and am just about done reading it.

I have a question that I haven’t found in the handbook:

How do I redirect my inactive domain name (I don’t have it on a website yet, I just own it) to an affiliate product in an article for EzineArticles or other directories.

Thanks so much for your help,
      Karen Cioffi-Ventrice

I,ve bought the Super Affiliates book, I’ve set up the site, have the domain, figured the niche, worked with computers for 6 years, but I must say, it is daunting to come to grips with the myriad info streams re getting into the mainstream traffic network. It’s obvious this is why so many aspirers simply fail, as even I struggle to differentiate between a Blog and aWeb site.
The WS is paid for, my BS is Google. Fortunately I have an IT expert from another business to help me, but this endeavour is really not for the average Mum or Dad, unless they are prepared and have the time to go back to school full time. HTML is way outta my orbit but I may just be able to access my web pages from the host site, and I’ll see you in the top 2% of affiliates soon.

        Hi Alex,
:-) If I’d titled the article My 6 Most Effective Site Marketing Techniques, then forum posting may well have been the 6th.. however, I find that forum posting is quite time consuming, so it didn’t make my Top 5.

        Cheers,
        Ros

      Hello Ros,

I have recently re-discovered your site after flitting from one to the other for the last 2 years. I have a couple of sites up and running and I have a question maybe you can answer.

I’m on quite a few newsletter lists as you can imagine. It seems that the e-mails I receive usually have nothing to do with the original topic or product of the sender. I understand that is the nature of being an affiliate marketer.
However, most of these pitches are for products I’m already an affiliate for through ClickBank.

Is it acceptable to reply to these e-mails with a pitch for my own product, or is that considered SPAM?

        Hi Mike,

In most cases there is no point in replying to the newsletters sent. If you want to do a jv with someone, it’s much better to get in touch with them directly through their preferred contact method and make a pitch. Or better yet, get an introduction from someone who is close to that person.

        Best of luck!

        Cheers,
        Ros

Hi Rosalind, now you have a strong blog (and probably also other strong sites) and I was wondering whether you would change the priority of the top5 if you had a brand new site? The reason I am asking is that even posts with good keyword implementation would not get much traffic if the site was brand new so maybe you would tend to have more focus on getting some link strength?

Thanks for sharing your own top proven strategies. I do look up to people who undoubtedly unveil their secrets to success.

With the new Google architecture, are you going to make changes with your marketing strategies? Or rather add up some other techniques to what you’ve mentioned?

Where does one find the time?? I have been working over time working on my site, finding supplies (trusted drop-shippers), dB management…
It is endless and all for about $3.00 per day.

      “Just keep workin’ it…”

      Thanks for my rant (smiles….)…
