I’ve always been really bad at naming things.
When I was a kid I had 3 dogs, a cat and a couple of fish. The dogs were named Lucky, Snoopy and Rover and the cat’s name was Morris. I called my goldfish Flipper and the ugly bug-eyed black fish never even got a name.
Ugh. I obviously had no parental guidance in the ‘imaginative naming’ department and despite the fact that my skill hasn’t improved much in subsequent years, I still persist in giving everything from trucks to trinkets a name.
But my failing becomes your opportunity.
Simply come up with another name for “Happy” (a.k.a. “Howdy”), the wood sculpture bear that graces my office (shown left) and also seen in my home office video tour.
Post a name in the Comments below before Decebmer 15th, 2007 and the person that supplies the chosen name will win a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate.

I’ll take the thesaurus approach, suggesting synonyms (or homonyms of synonyms, or synonyms or homonyms…) of “bear”:
Bear, v. to carry: Carey (also sounds like “Care Bear” if by any chance you like those), Buck
Bear, v. to endure: Brook
I didn’t find any great candidates for “bare”, but there’s always the name I gave my purple plastic toy bear when I was 6: Berry
I can’t resist one more — a full name for which BEAR is an acronym: Bertrand Emerson Antone Rochefoucauld (okay, so I put my first name in, but not my middle or last, both of which I could have!)
Hmmm. . .
More traditional names could be:
Honey
Honey Bear
Brownie
Bubba
A couple of non-traditional names – wasn’t sure of the sex
:
Beulah
Boris
Balthazar
I guess I got stuck on the “B’s” – thinking Boris the Bear, Brownie the Bear, etc.!
I’m glad he/she found a good home!

From the creative person with a fat cat named “Chubbers” and a skinny cat named “Twiggy”, how about “Snerdly” for your bear!
Cute bear! My name vote would be Ruby. How fun
CHUNKY!
Chipper… more to come
Lets see how good my spanish is:
Oso
el oso…el oso de marron
I like the Hebrew word for bear, which is Dov. (So Pooh the Bear is “Pooh ha’Dov” in Hebrew … my 2nd grader used to have a cute shirt with him on it.)
Or you could go with your post title, and call him “Rename”!
Eden
I love the bear!!!
He reminds me of a golden ray of sunshine … I’m sure he makes you smile and helps to inspire you. So here goes my names
Sunbeam
Cindy
How’s about
=> C. B.
Since he looks kind of “cool”, Cool Bear would be appropriated.
However, to personify, I believe that he probably prefers to be called
“C. B.”
Bye Ros and C.B.
How about Huggie the Huggable Bear?
Thanks,
Pat Creasy
I meant to put Huggie Bear for short! But I pushed the submit button too fast. Oops!
Thanks,
Pat Creasy
He/She looks like she is guarding your space with a happy face.
I believe she should be Sally the Sentinel.
Steve
I like Brownie
Bernie! For the loveable and warm spirit of the Berenstain bears…he kinda looks like the Papa!
How about “Suki”? (Short for “sugar” (i.e. sweet like honey)).
Greg
Herbie the Love Bear
Affy the bear or maybe SupAffy…Super Affiliate bear
Me again. Woke up this morning and must have been dreaming about your bear (how sad is that?
), because all I could think of was. . . .
BUCKLEY
What a very happy looking bear! How about “Rafferty”? The name means “prosperity wielder”… which is a good description of you, and what you teach others! And we are all very thankful to have your guidance.
Hi, I really love your office Bear! He has such great smile and the open paw is too adorable. One and one only… so, my daughter Taylyn suggests… and after my reminiscing about the Kodiak… (a kind of Brown Bear)… the name…. KODAK….!…. for such a brilliant photogenic smile! Truly a Kodak moment….
Love and blessings,
Amanda
Cute bear! He kinda looks like a Horatio to me.
Or how about Benjamin Bear?
Hello Ros!!
My son thinks you should name it after his bear’s name, Marshmallow!!
