Why is Colin Smiling?

Colin McDougall

Good morning. Colin McDougall and I are in the Maple Leaf Lounge in Vancouver airport right now, waiting for our flight to Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas.

We’ve been discussing ‘evergreen niches’ for affiliate marketers which traditionally include dating, business opportunites, finance, health and more. The trouble is, finance, and especially credit cards in particular have been taking a BIG dive of late, closing or suspending their programs left right and center. Here are just a few of the companies that have pulled offers recently.

  • Chase
  • American Express Consumer Cards
  • Capital One Travel & Gas

As you may know, one of Colin’s biggest niche markets is the credit card market and yet, he’s seen here smiling his great big grin, despite watching the bottom fall out.

Why?

He knows how to adapt to fluctuating market conditions by taking subscribers on his existing lists and promoting new products relevant to their interests. By doing this, he rarely sees a drop in income.

Stay tuned for more. Gotta run, it’s boarding time!

Now you have me on pins and needles Rosalind. By the way, I think that 2009 is going to be a good year for Internet Marketers. There will be more people working from home looking for better ways to do things and the Internet is one of the better solutions.

  3. Hi,

That’s great, I’ve been working with Colin myself, and running my own online businesses. He is exactly right, find your niches (and micro-niches) and follow through, there’s still money on the table.

You just have to know where to look, and you have to give the visitor a good experience at your website – keep your bounce rate low! Setup Google Analytics and make sure you’re provding content that keeps people happy.

Good luck as we move into change,
    -Brett

  4. Good morning,

I believe that we, as entrepreneurs can not allow ourselves to get caught up in the doom and gloom that is so pervasive out there these days.

Affiliate marketing in one of the “Evergreen” niches is THE place to be.

    Question:
Should I have my affiliate banners on the front page of my blog or should I get them to opt in first?

Also, Everyone has a slightly different way of approaching social media SEO
    what’s your favorite way?

    Cary Richards,
