Yahoo! Adds Targeting Options

Yahoo! Search MarketingYahoo! Search Marketing just announced (well, for me anyway — how come I always get the email notices 2 days later than everyone else?) that they’ve added some demographic, dayparting and ZIP code-level targeting options for their advertisers.

Demographic targeting: Select your audience by age and gender in both Sponsored Search and Content Match. Demographic targeting lets you specify a premium bid amount for desired audience segments, without losing other traffic volume… meaning you’ll pay more.

Ad scheduling (dayparting): Select the time of day and day of the week during which you’d like your campaigns to run according to users’ time zones or your account’s time zone. Adwords has been doing this for what… years? Applicable to both Sponsored Search and Content Match, and at the campaign or ad group level.

ZIP code-level geo-targeting: Get really focused by targeting individual ZIP codes and ZIP codes surrounding them.

While I appreciate the Zip code and dayparting options, I’ll have to test their audience demographic intelligence. Should be interesting.

Ros, thanks for sharing. I Should try this. I just joined with yahoo to advertise 1 week ago. I got a lot traffic but the conversion still zero. Maybe because my ads not targeted. I will learning more. Thanks again.

  2. Ed Hudson says:

Yahoo is behind the curve on the geo-targeting, and Google hasn’t even begun to roll this out yet. LocalAdLink is blazing the trail for this. Google is losing ground and PPC is too expensive any more for most small businesses and folks just starting into marketing. Only ones getting rich are Google shareholders!

    Rosalind,

2 days later is a SMALL price to pay for a nifty Tip like this one – muy bien!!

  4. Randy says:

I get lots of advertise on my yahoo which i was not getting in past. I think yahoo should reduce advertising popups, otherwise people will move up to hotmail, gmail or others.
