When I have done searches in search engines for “ free templates” most of the responses are either ones you have to pay for in disguise OR there is some kind of catch which ends up costing money .
Does anybody know of any sites that offer a good free templates? |

Everything costs in one way or another.
Just a fact of life.
You might be in for more trouble
than it's worth either way.
There used to be a lot of good free templates,
but I haven't looked in a few years.
Even if you find some,
they will want you to link back or something.
I found this:
http://www.steves-templates.com/templates.html
http://www.freewebsitetemplates.com/
http://www.freelayouts.com/
Not much to offer, sorry.
A better search might be "open source".
open source templates,
open source websites,
etc.
I found this, a bit better than the above:
http://www.oswd.org/
It also really depends on your design needs,
and your post is pretty vague.
If you need something specific,
I recommend surfing around for ideas,
then "ripping" a template down to the tables.
I've done it before, and it's controversial.
But if your not plagiarizing the content or images,
there really is no harm in "swiping" an idea.
Ideas can't be copyrighted.
Another idea might be to
search for templates on ebay.
I bet money you can find some gems for pennies there!
Hope it helps!

I found some very nice, free templates at andreasviklund DOT com/templates/. In fact I used the Andreas01 template for one of my company sites, mastercraftinc DOT com (sorry about the non-functioning URL link, silly forum limitations). There is no commerce function built in to it, just an information/resume site.
There are actually many sources of free templates out there, depending on what you are trying to accomplish. One I am experimenting with right now is a complete 'Content Management System' (CMS) by Mambo, an open source project. I created a test site at Siteground DOT com (dirt cheap, and amazingly easy) that I am experimenting with. Siteground lets you use CPanel and Fantastico to install all the necessary files and databases, you just need to play with the CSS and images to make it unique. Check out what you can do: mamboserver DOT com, follow the links to 'demo'. |

Hi Montyauto,
I have a folder with 10 good templates in it.
If you want them I'll send them to you.
I've got no use for them. I'm sure that they work as they're from a very reputable marketer but it's just that, after 7 months trying, I've finally come to the realisation that I'm nowhere intelligent enough to work out anything about websites, blogs etc.
I've no idea how you contact anyone from this forum but I'm sure that you'll work it out.
Contact me with an email address and they're yours.
See ya
