I realize it's best to build a squeeze page with an email campaign to make the most profits, but what about when you are trying to choose a new product to sell?
Instead of going through the effort and time for a product that may or may not be profitable, is it better to test it by sending the customer directly to the merchant from Awords then build your landing/squeeze page and email campaign after the product shows potential?
Or maybe I should just ask, when searching for a product or service to market, what is the best way to test it for profitability? |

Tino,
If you haven't subscribed to Rosalind's newsletter, I suggest that you do. Your question has been the topic of her newsletter just recently. I've identified a 3-part process for determining profitibility. The first is to use Yahoo's keyword selector tool to find out what's hot. Look for keywords that appear very frequently and analyze websites that turn up when you search on these keywords yourself. What are they selling? Then use those same keywords on the Overture bid tool, and see what advertisers are paying per click for those keywords. If you find that they are paying several dollars per click, you know that it is only because it is profitable. Last, look around on CJ, LinkShare, and ClickBank for advertisers selling products and services related to the keywords your research has led you to and look how much they pay their affiliates. Find a few good payouts, affiliate with those advertisers, and build a site or e-mail campaign around their products and services and start selling...
If you haven't read Rosalind's book, you really should! She goes into much greater detail than I have here and her newsletter is an invaluable supplement.
Good luck! |

Hi worstcritic,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my post. Yes, I do own Roz's fantastic book and subscribe to her newsletter. Maybe I didn't phrase my question properly, I do understand how to do the product & keyword research, but what I'm really looking to find out is when you are testing if a product will be profitable do you send your traffic directly to the merchant from your PPC ad or do you have them go to a landing page or a redirect page first?
Thanks,
John T |
