|

When I signed up for the NPT Affiliate program, the welcome letter was mailed to my domain email addy, as I requested. However, I never received it there.
I have just discovered that it is in my Yahoo junk mail. I have no idea how it could get redirected there. However, my web host examined the headers and sent me this report:
"Looking at the logs on that server it appears that even though the
headers of the email show as being "to" marion ebizschool biz earlier in
the smtp conversation the to address was set to be marionwa yahoo com
and that is why our system sent it on it's way to yahoo."
I have searched Net Profits at great length and cannot find a way to notify you of this. Can someone please examine your system and remove my Yahoo addy from it. I want my NPT mail to come into my domain mail box.
Thank you.

Hi Marion,
Can you log in to your affiliate account?
You should be able to change the email from there.
I can change the email you have on record for the forum,
but not for NPT's other systems.
If you can't log in to your account, let me know.
I'll get a notice to Joel for you.
He'll handle it for you.

There is nothing to change in my account. You have the correct email addy at my domain. You are sending the mail to the correct addy at my domain. The mail is being redirected to yahoo. Why?
My web host has looked at the headers and it is happening somewhere between you and them. I am signed up with another affiliate program whose email is being redirected there also. I did not give you or them a yahoo address. I only get junk mail there and until now only looked at it about once a month to empty the trash.
Maybe you and the other program are using the same email client to deliver your mail.I notice that much of what you do is through Aweber. Could it be that Aweber, or whoever you use, has my yahoo addy and is redirecting everything you send to me at my domain to yahoo instead???? Would it help to send you the headers on the mail you sent?
I am new to internet marketing and am trying to learn. I have some sites almost ready for promoting, but dare not attempt to try to build a subscriber list until this is resolved.
Everything is on hold. Once I get through putting out fires, I hope to start getting some marketing training. Thanks for your help.

Is there any chance your domain addy has a forwarder set up to go to your Yahoo mail? It's all I can think of. Yeah, I know, it sounds kind of stupid because you would have had to do it manually, but I also have a trash Yahoo addy in addition to my domain addies and none of my incoming aweber emails to my domain mails go there.
I also had a similar issue on an old hosting account. Somehow my domain email system got messed up on it. They (the hosting company) swore up & down there was no problem but when I'd log into it, sometimes I'd get my originally set up email account, sometimes I'd get an empty one. Just to document it (to show them there was a problem) I would email myself from a different account and copy my Yahoo addy. It always showed up at Yahoo, but it was sporadic to my domain addy. It was the final straw that made me leave them. Since I've changed hosts, I've had no issues. Just something to think about, ensure your domain mail system is not corrupt. |

No... this mail host does not have any kind of forwarder on it. They are as baffled as I am. They have examined the full headers. I have domains that I have had for years and this has never happened. But this is a fairly new domain and the host is recent. There is no way they could even know I have a yahoo. The headers tell the story.
Besides that, I can email from any of my domains and it goes directly to ebizschool. The only mail that is going to yahoo is my Rosalind Gardner affiliate program stuff and Internet Marketing Sweetie. I did get some mail from another affiliate program the other day. But all other mail addressed to that domain is coming into my Outlook Express Client where it belongs.
If it continues, I am going to close the Yahoo account and open another. But if I do, your mail may be returned undeliverable and since you use autoresponders, they probably will never notice. It makes me wonder if you might have many emails that get returned as a result of the glitch.
If you can't check it out, let me know. Marketing Sweetie is going through their system to see how it is happening. If you guys are using the same email marketing program, it may be in their system. Several years ago, I was signed up with Site Sell and used my yahoo addy then.
Thanks.

Yeah, I think Griff is probably right.
It sounds more like a problem at your host.
It's not likely that NPT can do anything on this end.
It's even more likely if the yahoo addy is the one
you gave your host when you signed up.
I'd create another addy at yahoo.
Doesn't matter what, because it's just for testing this.
You will trash it when you are done.
Send yourself an email, and see where it goes.
If it ends up at yahoo like the others,
contact your host.
Tell them to test it for themselves.
Or just look for a forward in your mail settings and delete it.
I'll try to help further if you like,
Send me an email if you think I can do anything.
(NPT 'AT' ContactBrad 'DOT' com)
I'll do what I can.
Or if you still think it's just a problem at NPT,
I'll contact Joel for you.
Let me know.
Brad. |

"It's even more likely if the yahoo addy is the one
you gave your host when you signed up."
I did not give my yahoo addy to my host. I have never had an account with this host before and they had absolutely no way of knowing that I have a yahoo addy. I have had the yahoo from the time that yahoo came into existence. And stopped giving it out years ago when I had my own domains. And this host had no way of knowing what my yahoo email address is. There is no redirect that they can find and I have gone through and through the settings in my account and it is clean.
There are no redirects set up in my mx at the host. But there was a setting that I changed to see if it could make some difference. I doubt seriously that it will do anything since there are no redirects. The mail there is ordered to go directly to my domain addy -- no exceptions. And again, yahoo does not appear anywhere and never has appeared anywhere because I didn't ever give them that addy.
I may have used it many years ago for Ken Evoy or some other marketer, but I definitely don't use it now.
I can send email from my other domains and they go directly to the correct mail box into Outlook Express. None of them are being redirected. Only yours and the other internet marketing program.
I am going to wait a few days and if it doesn't get corrected, I am going to close the yahoo account. But I have been holding off doing that so that I wouldn't lose your program because I am quite certain that your mail will be returned to you undeliverable.
I am afraid to set up my opt-in-mail at this domain while this is happening. But I can't wait forever. At any rate, I need to get back to business. I have spent far too much time on this problem. My host is still working on it.
It sounds like it is nothing you can do anything about. So thanks for your efforts.

| Marion, sorry I missed the particular detail you stated that your host had traced the address path. It might be a good idea to send Bradley the path that your host provided during their check. He can forward it to Joel for further analysis since it appears to be changing addresses before reaching your host. Or email it to the "contact" address at the bottom of this page, I think that goes straight to Joel. Again, I'm sorry I missed that detail, and if I caused more lost time for you. |

We must have been writing our posts at the same time.
Your reply wasn't there when I started writing, sorry.
I'll let Joel know about this thread.
If anyone can help, he's your man.
Sorry I couldn't help more.

Thanks GriffG... I have emailed the headers from my NPT mail to Brad. In the meantime, I have gone through all my Outlook Express and cleaned everything out that was in there prior to 2007. I haven't used it for years because I get my other domain mails from my Mozilla browser. I didn't see anything suspicious.
Also, I sent the headers to the other marketing program a few days ago and yesterday and today I received mail from them into my ebizschool box. Keeping my fingers crossed. I don't know what they did, if anything. But so far, it is working.
Thanks again.

You're welcome, Marion, although I wish I had been able to do something worthy of your thanks & not have had you spin your wheels there for a couple days. I don't get a whole lot of time on line and sometimes I don't pay as close attention to detail as I should.
I AM glad to hear that things seem to be straightening out, though. Hopefully it was an isolated incident! I suspect I know who your current host is, and if I'm right, I have had VERY satisfactory service from them. The few times I've had issues (self-inflicted), they've been Johnny-On-The-Spot to fix them via live chat, and to my knowledge, my site has NEVER been down in the near year I've been with them. |

Hey Griff and Brad - I found it! It was all my fault. I just had one of those epiphanic moments (a sudden revelation). Shortly after obtaining my domain, I downloaded a mail list manager. I knew I had tons of things to do and it would be quite awhile before I would be using it, but I just decided to get ready and let it sit until the website was complete. I didn't plan to configure it until I was ready to set up my opt-in. Actually, I totally dismissed that thing from my mind. I had no idea the thing was running. But obviously, it has been very busy.
But I opened it up and discovered that I had done the wizard thing when I downloaded it. The wiz had asked where I wanted to send mail that came into that box from a source not on the list. And, I had typed in my junk email addy. Since there is no list yet, mail coming through there was going to yahoo. I still don't know why some mail was coming in the domain box and some was being redirected. But I don't care, as long as the redirect has been removed.
Well, I'm a bit embarrassed but really thankful for you guys. And, thanks also Griff for telling me your experience with this host. They have been terrific. And as you said, they have been exceptionally interested in trying to solve this. Everyone in support got into the act. I have three different web hosts and these guys and their products are tops.
Thanks again, for all your help. Hope you've had a great Thanksgiving and God's best to you.

That's great news, Marion! Glad to hear you got it all figured and straightened out! It's amazing how much detail is involved in some of this stuff that most folks don't prioritize. I have found that checklists really earn their keep in this regard.
For every situation of this type I've experience, I've made a checklist during and after the experience to ensure I can cover my bases should I need to do it again. I just use a simple text editor and save to my 'checklists' folder. It's spared me some major frustrations since.
Again, nice job and perseverance on solving the issue! Thanks for posting your find, it's a great lesson learned for all.
ps - Great host choice, too! I've been loving it ever since I switched! |
