Spamdexing is a technique that artificially increases the relevancy of the web sites, thus increasing the potential position of a site on the search engines listings, but decreasing the quality of the search engine's database. This term is also used for sending of unsolicited bulk electronic mail. Stuffing a Web page full of words in the hope of making it high on the list for search engine spiders. Sometimes a Web page will have a list of many words, or the same word repeated many times, with the text in the same colour as the background. The link exchange systems are designed to allow individual websites to selectively exchange Links with other relevant websites and are not considered a form of spamdexing.
Some techniques that are often considered to be spamdexing are:
* Inserting keywords that are the same colour as a page's background (invisible keywords)
* Adding keywords that have nothing to do with the page to the meta tags
* Repeating keywords (or keywords stuffing)
* Webpage hijacking (pagejacking)
* Abusive use of domain and sub-domain aliases. Submitting contents under different domain names is not allowed by most search engines and directories.
* Over indexing pages in search engines
Spamdexed Web pages will be rejected by search engines.

Spamdexing is actually quite old. The search engines know all about the various tricks to this and may initially index the site temporarily, until it is completely crawled.
Then once the spamdexing is discovered, the site will be removed from the results pages. This process could take a few minutes, or a few hours, depending on the spider that is crawling the site.

Wow, that sounds right out of an SEO book from 1997!
I know people that still stuff the meta tags with irrelevant keywords thinking it works. |
