Hi
My name is Bob Jackson. I am having trouble w/ the niche topic.
I've been reading alot of posts that talk about the 'Loosing weight' niche.
I don't have that problem. I just finished radiation treatment. In the process I lost about 60 lbs. I have no taste buds or saliva glands which makes eating not only difficult but, very frustrating. I'm not telling you this for sympathy just as background. It is a real chore to make myself eat. There has to be a niche there somewhere???
Any advice would be very much appreciated. Although no research has been done yet(I just thought of it), it sounds exciting to me. |

Hi Bob
It is good to see someone here from Omaha. I am in Carter Lake, IA, right next door to you. A friend of ours in Omaha (who happens to be named Bob too) went through something similar as you. He carries a spray bottle with water in it to wet his mouth.
While I see the weight loss market as being flooded (oops, bad word for Iowa) what I rarely ever see is a niche for chemotherapy. If I was to choose a new niche market, I would research that one. So many people are going through it that there are TV commercials advertising the service.
What I never see advertised is the support after treatment. Think about having a website for discussions, resources, even products related to recovery and regaining their health. That is where I would start.

Jim-
Let's get a few things straight you are an Iowan hiding on Nebraska turf
I was at Lakeside Auto Recyclers in Carter Lake yesterday dumping a gas hog. Nice to meet you. Maybe we could meet sometime for coffee, let me pick your brain. Heck, here is my p# 402-612-7424, it'd be great to talk.
The chemo thing is a great idea. I haven't gone thru it...yet, mine was radiation in my head and neck. I think the aftermath is basically the same.
I like the idea but at the sametime I,m not sure if I want to think about it everyday, that might be too selfish. I am going to build a small list of niches and this idea will start the process.
Thanks, hope we can meet sometime.

Too funny! Actually, I am a Minnesotan hiding in Iowa with strong ties to Nebraska (my in-laws live there).
Radiation and chemotherapy may have similar results, but the two always confuse me, such as why one is used instead of the other. Thinking about it daily is not much of a choice. You do it anyway since you have the after effects of treatment. Others live with it too and are most likely looking for some place to reach out so they do not feel alone. You can offer hope to them.
Just something to think about though. You will decide after doing your research. I will call you tomorrow when I get a break from things. |
