I'm looking for a good low cost program of creating my own web templates like using a photoshop tool. Any input or resourses would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cav

I am not sure which Photoshop tool you are referring to, but there is a free HTML editor called KOMPOZER (formerly NVU) and a free graphics editor called Gimp.

Are either of those close to what you are looking for?

I just want to create a good looking background and give my site a professional look. I'll give these a try, thank you for your help.

I have a low cost image manipulation tool PhotoPlus 11 by Serif. They also have a free tool that isn't nearly as powerful. Each jump in number gives you more tools.

I just went over and looked and they have photoplus 11 for 39.00 and a new PhotoPlusX2 (for Vista) for 79.00 - more powerful. In either case much more cost effective than photoshop.

www.Serif.com

If you are a teacher you can also check out JourneyEd (http://www.journeyed.com/home.asp) they offer discounts (that are pretty great) for teachers and students.

Hope that helps!

I tried KompoZer in Vista, and I could not even make a decent download. It came in WinRAR ZIP archive and a file folder along with bunch of stuff that I don't understand what to do with it. In file folder I found Application (!) KompoZer, after I clicked on it the program shows up but very unstable and disappearing shortly after I try to operate in it.

Anyone knows how to get download of this program for Vista with shortcut on a desktop and functional as a normal software? Rolling Eyes

Hello Lubasha!

What version of Vista are you using? I went to the link Jim provided, clicked on the big "Download" button for version 0.7.10, unzipped the file and launched the application (kompozer.exe) with no issues. (I'm using Beasta (Vista) Home Premium SP1 that came pre-installed on my new PC, with all current updates).

To create a shortcut to it on your desktop simply:
open your explorer (right-click on "Start" button, left-click explore)
navigate to the folder where you extracted Kompozer
find the file named "kompozer.exe"
right-click hold and drag to your desktop
release right-click and choose "create shortcut"

Presto, shortcut on desktop!

Hope this helps! Smile

Thank you Griff!

I use latest version of Vista because I bought my last computer in May.

I did as you said and after 101st time I got the effect you explained about. Subtle difference took couple hours of brain washing. This is: when you just “right-click hold and drag to your desktop” that kompozer.exe application it does not work at least in my version of Vista. So I tried to drag it by left click and shortcut shows up but does not work properly.

Eventually I found that before I drag application with right click I have to highlight it first and then with ANOTHER click right button is working fine and I get pop up window with an offer to create shortcut. And THIS shortcut leads to software that works (after popping up window to run the program).

It’s again, thanks a lot for your good help.

Sincerely,

Lubasha

I've been using CuteHTML for years. A really old version before registration was required.

I downloaded the KompoZer so I'll give it try. thanks
